1. Data controller
The publisher of Retro Pal and this site is a French micro-enterprise (auto-entrepreneur), based in Paris. Full contact details (legal name, SIRET, address, publication director) are available on the Legal notice page.
For any question about your personal data, write to support@retropal.fr.
2. Data collected by the app
No personal data. Retro Pal shows no ads and builds no advertising profile. To improve the app, it sends anonymous usage statistics to TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service based in the EU: no personal data, no advertising identifier (IDFA), no cross-app tracking. Because only anonymous, non-personal data is processed, no consent is required (legal basis: legitimate interest).
Concretely, this means:
- You can play entirely offline; anonymous statistics are sent only when the app has a connection.
- When the app sends these statistics, your IP address is used only for transmission and is never stored by TelemetryDeck. The associated identifier is anonymous, salted and hashed on your device then hashed again on receipt, specific to one installation and impossible to link to your identity. No advertising identifier (IDFA) is used, and no cross-app tracking takes place.
- The statistics are aggregated and anonymous: they are never linked to your identity.
- No cookies, web beacons, or tracking pixels are used, neither in the app nor on this site (the site is fully static, with no third-party scripts).
3. Data stored locally on your device
To work, Retro Pal stores certain data only on your iPhone, in the app's sandbox:
- The ROM files you import (which you must own legally).
- Game saves (battery saves and save states).
- Your preferences (language, controls, default speed, etc.).
- Cumulative playtime per game, used purely for cosmetic display on share cards.
- The cheat codes you enter (Pro).
This data stays within the Apple ecosystem and is never transmitted to a Retro Pal server (there is none). Two mechanisms can copy it off your iPhone, in both cases under your own Apple account only: the iOS iCloud Backup, if you have it enabled at the system level (managed and encrypted by Apple); and iCloud sync of your game saves, which is automatic when your iPhone is signed into iCloud and places them in Retro Pal's private iCloud Drive container so you can find them on your other devices. You can turn this sync off by disabling iCloud Drive for Retro Pal in iOS Settings. None of this data is accessible to Retro Pal or any third party.
4. Cookies and similar technologies on this site
This site (retropal.fr) is fully static. It sets no cookies, uses no local storage, and loads no third-party scripts (no Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel, no Hotjar, nothing). No consent banner is required because no consent is required.
The fonts used (VT323, Newsreader, JetBrains Mono) are self-hosted on our own servers, not loaded from Google Fonts or a third-party CDN. No information about your visit is transmitted to a third party.
5. In-app purchases via the App Store
Retro Pal Pro purchases ($4.99 lifetime or $0.99 per month) are processed exclusively by Apple via StoreKit. No payment information passes through Retro Pal. Apple acts as the direct seller and remits a share to us per the Apple Developer Program terms.
For billing, refund, or subscription management questions, consult Apple's privacy policy and App Store help: apple.com/legal/privacy.
6. Sharing screenshots
When you use the "Share screenshot" function from the pause menu or via a system screenshot, Retro Pal generates an image locally on your device. This image is shared only at the moment you choose to share it, via the standard iOS share sheet. Sharing is then handled by the app you pick (Messages, Photos, Mail, etc.), and Retro Pal has no visibility into the destination or content of the share.
7. Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable French data protection law, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction, and portability concerning your personal data.
Since no personal data is collected or retained by Retro Pal, these rights are de facto automatically respected. If you uninstall the app, all your local data is removed from your device.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with France's data protection authority, the CNIL: cnil.fr.
8. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated if the app's functionality evolves. Any substantive change will be flagged by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and via an in-app notice if the change implies new data processing.
9. Contact
